Describe your student population 24 students in each Geometry Class, 16 and 21 in each Algebra 2 class and 7 Calculus students. 1 Period still don't know what I am teaching.
Describe your teaching change I would like to include more problem solving/Real world uses to introduction of concepts and work back to equations/pure math applications. Liked the idea of using words to describe formulas and then working back to actual formuals. I believe this will help the students better grasp and retain the concepts as we work through the year. By hooking students with visuals and reenforcing ideas as while working towards plug and chug equations students will have a better sense of why they are doing things and what skills are needed for jobs. Using Fathom to display data sets and graphs will be a very useful tool for a district with limited technology available. Use wikispaces to have students enter and store their vocabulary/formulas.
Set Teaching Goals Bring in more problems/bigger projects rather than using the standard book problems to teach lessons.
Vocabulary building in a more designed and logical way. Have kids build vocabulary page blog where they will store the vocabulary and formulas they will be learning.
Describe Teaching Actions
Get students on computers and build blog for math class. Have RSS feed setup to monitor student input and grade them on using the site to monitor.
Find and use good problems that teach the concepts rather than lecture style teaching.
Assess Teaching Goals
Did I get students to journal and setup vocabulary and function/equation data online.
